’The Highwayman’ and ‘Typhoid Fever’ Comparison.

Some of the similarities from The highwayman and Typhoid Fever are that both female characters die. Also both sets of character are forbidden to talk to each other but they still try to find a way to do so. The way they die, however, is very different “Patricia “From Typhoid Fever has a sickness on her way to the lavatory she struggles. She does not want to use the bedpan next to her bed, she rather use the lavatory when she finally makes it there she falls and dies. “Bess” From The Highwayman dies when she is tied down with a musket pointing at her and is basically forced to kill herself. A difference in the stories is that only one of the males die in the stories. The male that dies is from the story The highwayman he becomes shot.

Typhoid Fever’– Present Tense Childhood Memory.

I am three years old. I am standing and sort of hanging on to the wire door in front of my grandma’s house. I stand there keeping watch, I see my family and they seem to be having a great time together. Suddenly I hear church bells. They are very vague and far but, they can still be heard. My uncles, aunts, parents and grandparents seem surprised. I see my uncles and my mom pull a little clear plastic bag. Out of the bag come out a variety of decorated cardboard made into different shapes. Squares, triangles, octagons, polygons, cylinders, circles, even small rockets and long sticks that resemble that of incense sticks. A sudden instinct of mine tells me to head out there with them. I do as my instinct tells me and I follow. Out the door I go suddenly I run to my mom who by now is lighting up one of the cardboard pieces. I am startled by the sound of the cardboard shooting up into the sky and blowing up in to millions of colorful sparks in the dark sky. I run screaming back into the house and standing back in my safe spot right behind the wire door. I hear my mom scream at me “That’s what you get I told you to stay inside!”

The Cold Equations’ – Marilyn’s Point of View.

In the commander's point of view it's difficult to kill or get rid of Marilyn, the stowaway, because he's never had to deal with a girl stowaway. This makes him emotionally hard and difficult for him to throw her out. Marilyn's point of view may have been that it was very difficult for the man to get rid of her

Different Points of View

The Storyteller’ - Memorable Books from My Childhood.

1. Tuck Everlasting by Natalie Babbitt
2. Corduroy by Don Freeman
3. Where the Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak
4. Where the Red Fern Grows by Wilson Rawls
5. The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle

The story I have selected from my top five list is Corduroy by Don Freeman. This story is about a bear named Corduroy, who wears a green corduroy with a missing button. This causes a little girl named Lisa’s mother to not buy the bear for Lisa. At night when all the customers, shoppers and employees have left the shop, Corduroy comes off his shelf and searches for his missing button. Corduroy ends up in the furniture department trying to find a button to replace his, he then breaks a lamp while trying to pull one off a mattress. A security guard hears the crash and then finds Corduroy, he brings him back to his shelf in the toy department. The next day Lisa comes back with enough money that she’s saved in her piggy bank. She takes Corduroy home. I chose this book, because when I was younger and to this day, I felt like Corduroy and I had something in common. Corduroy was left in the store with hopes of being bought by Lisa. This kind of, for some strange reason, reminds me of the times my mom would forget me in the sock and underwear section of Wal-mart and Kmart. In the end some nice stranger would take me to the front and find my mom for me or I would just cry and scream for her until the cops came. After a while I kind of knew she was going to find me, actually it's the other way around, I was going to find her. At the end of the story Lisa came back for Corduroy and I feel that we relate in this way.
